This is a close-up photo of a Black Swallowtail
butterfly caterpillar (Papilio polyxenes) on a dill plant. The
shot was taken in early evening with the camera mounted on a tripod and
a macro ring flash on the front of the lens. The flash, a slow shutter
speed, and small f-stop were necessary to achieve an acceptable depth of
field at close range. Details: Canon EOS 10D digital camera with a Canon EF 100 mm macro lens and a Canon MR-14EX ring flash. Settings were 1/45 second, f11, focal length 100 mm, ISO 1600, flash compensation at 1/2 power. |
